How to Use The Fileservers

All users of our environment get some disk space for their own files.

To support each client with the best service, we have different server names for each kind of client. See the following documentation for different client.

• Access to your files with SMB (Windows, MacOS X, Linux/BSD/UNIX)
• Access to your files with SCP or SFTP (any system)

Don't be confused about the different “server names” (see Hostnames of our services). All of them will serve you the same files. Access with a Windows-Client to WINHOME, with a Mac to MACHOME and see the same files!

For Windows clients we also support Domain Logon, see D-PHYS Domain Logon.

To access your data from anywhere in the world, we also provide the following two services:

• WebDAV access to your files with a variety of clients
• For emergency cases where the above mentioned recommended ways do not work due to local restrictions, i.e. some company's firewall or internet access just through an foreign PC, e.g. at an internet café, we also offer https://webhome.phys.ethz.ch/, a web-based interface to your files. We though do not recommend Webhome as a normal way to acces your home as it's quite slow.
